Calling all space enthusiasts at Polaris Charter School! Our exciting after-school program is perfect for students fascinated by rockets, planets, and the mysteries of outer space. Each week, students will engage in hands-on activities, building their own rockets, crafting paper lanterns, and learning about different types of astral bodies.

  • Take-Home Science Projects: Every class (except one) will feature a take-home science project, designed to display beautifully as a collection if desired.
  • Rocket Launch Day: One week will be dedicated to launching student-built rockets using compressed air. This class will take place outdoors in a large open field or parking lot. (The outdoor week will be scheduled between 11/13 and 11/20.)

  • Dates: Classes are held on 10/2, 10/9, 10/16, 10/23, 10/30, 11/13, and 11/20.
  • Time: 1:15 PM – 2:15 PM, right after school dismissal.
  • Location: Polaris Charter School
  • Class Size: Limited to 15 students.
  • Cost: $20 per class (7 weeks = $140). Early-bird pricing ends September 18th! After that, the price will increase to $25 per class.

Registration Deadline: September 25th at 5 PM.
Please register and pay online before the deadline to secure your spot.

Financial Aid: Polaris students are welcome to participate, regardless of financial circumstances. If assistance is needed, contact pefpresident@polarischarterschool.org before September 18th to request financial aid. All requests are confidential, and families will receive a discount code to use during registration.

Class Notes:

  • Students go directly to the program after school.
  • All supplies are provided, sterilized between uses, and packed by our team.
  • In the event of a school closure (non-weather related), materials will be delivered to your home, and lessons will continue remotely.
  • Polaris Charter will manage student dismissal to ensure safe pickup.

Description

This is for Polaris Charter School Students interested in outer space! Using self-built rockets and paper lanterns students will explore the classifications of different astral bodies. All but one week of our course will result in a take-home piece of science and if the student chooses, the pieces display well together. The week without a take-home piece will be spent launching the rockets with compressed air. A large open field or parking lot is required for this one week, the out-of door week may be any week except the first. Aside from the week when we build (11/13) and launch (11/20) rockets, this course is non-cumulative, so missing a class for a doctors appointment or other important event isn’t a big deal.

This course is open to 15 students only.  Classes are on 10/2, 10/9, 10/16, 10/23, 10/30, 11/13 & 11/20 from 1:15 to 2:15 pm at Polaris Charter School.  Classrooms will follow all CDC guidelines for whatever is going on at the time.  Students will go directly to the program after regular class dismissal.

Deadline for sign-up is September 25th at 5pm. Please register and pay online via this page by the end of the day on September 25th. 

All Polaris students have the opportunity to register for this course regardless of ability to pay the course fee. Families who may require assistance with all or part of the course fee can contact pefpresident@polarischarterschool.org for financial aid from the PEF.  All information provided will be confidential. Families utilizing financial aid will be given a discount code to use when applying online.  Please make your financial aid request a week before the class deadline. The student must be signed up through this page using the code to reserve a spot in the course.

Late sign-ups mean we can’t pack your supplies and get them into my car in time. All payment must be made via Credit Card on the site by the end of business September 25th.

Your student will go directly from class on Thursday to our program.

We pack all supplies ourselves and sterilize supplies between uses with a commercial UV Sterilizer.

If school must close for non weather related reasons, we will arrange for supply delivery and the lesson will be conducted remotely.

Polaris Charter School will handle student dismissal at the end of the class, ensuring appropriate persons pick up the student.Unchartered is does not have information on individuals retrieving students at the end of the class or if an early pick up is required. Please communicate with Polaris regarding these needs.

$20 a class X 7 weeks = $140! On sale from $25 a class until September 9th!

If the deadline isn’t met and class has spaces available, the price goes up to $25 a class.
